My girlfriend and I of about 8 months found out yesterday that she was pregnant. I am 29 and she is 23 and neither one of us are ready to be parents. She was on oral birth control. We have discussed getting married in a year or two and are had plans to move in together next month after the New Year. This is all very new to me and we had no immediate plans for a family but we both have discussed one when the time was right and agreed we wanted one.

Now I am not sure what to do. I think I want to have the baby although the timing isn’t good and I am totally not ready for this and this isn’t at all what I had planned on. She is strongly considering an abortion and the more that time goes by the more anxiety I am feeling about that decision. She agreed that we have some time to decide and not to be rash about any decisions yet. Understandably I sense that this is very overwhelming for her and an abortion seems like a quick solution. She is very upset right now and I know it is easy to think about how this is going to upset you plans for life career etc. I can imagine it is ever harder for her as she is 23 and had plans for the next few years that didn’t include this. She is a pretty reasonable woman and I want to suggest we talk to someone about this but not sure who? Since I understand abortion is a politically charged topic and there is no such thing as an unbiased resource to go to, ideally I would like to go to two different ones but I am not sure which ones. Both I would like to be open to us making this decision together and I would like one who advocated the right to choose and one who advocates for life. I am in the San Diego area. If anyone has had any experience with any resources they can recommend I would appreciate it. Also if anyone has had a similar experience I would love your advice.

I have never been faced with this decision before so I am totally confused but the more it sets in the more I think I am going to have a hard time living with the decision to abort and I honestly think she will to someday if not immediately.

Please help!

I see both sides of the argument. I can see why someone will say that it's woman's decision. At the same time, I also wonder whether abortion is the only option for unwanted pregnancy. I see merits of both sides, but also the downsides as well.
